In todays video lesson I show you how to buy your domain name. I use NameCheap.com to buy and manage all of my domain names. They have a great service and I have always been happy with them.
I suggest NOT using GoDaddy to get your domain names or hosting. In my experience, using them comes with a lot of headaches.
In our next video we are going to show you how to setup your DNS (Domain Name Servers) so that your domain name and hosting account know that they go together. (best way I know how to explain it)
So, keep your eyes peeled for that lesson coming out tomorrow, or simply click the link in the sidebar if you are watching this in the future
Here are a couple quick tips when it comes to picking a good domain name…
Quick Tip 1: always pick a .com when available
It is always better to pick up a .com when ever you can. The reason being, that is what people remember. If your site is mysite.net and you tell your friend about it, when they get home they are going to instinctively type in mysite.com. That is just the way people are trained to think. So, if you can grab a good .com name I would always go for that over a great .net name
Quick Tip 2: Make your site something that is easy to remember
The last thing you want is a site name like… youreabsolutelygoingtolovemysitebecauseitiseasilythecoolest.com (you’re absolutely going to love my site because it is easily the coolest) That might sound cool, but no one is going to be able to read it or remember it for very long.
So, leave a comment below and let us know when you picked up your new domain name
