Double or Single Opt in?

I have always built my list using double opt in methods. I’ve recently started looking at numbers and have questioned my decision to do so.

Using double opt in I would assume builds a fairly qualified list, but how many of the qualified buyers are you actually missing out on that do not get the confirmation message?

You see, I recently bought a product and subscribed to the update list, but I got distracted and never hit the confirmation link.

When I went to look for this confirmation message I had already accidentally deleted it. Being a customer of Aweber I knew that the confirmation message could not be resent.

Now I want to be on the list, but I cannot get on the list. At lease for the next 30 days anyway.

So I started looking through my list of buyers and looking at the numbers. I was getting a 70% confirmation rate for my buyers. So out of every thousand buyers I was losing 300 of them. I have to think that a vast majority of those 300 buyers would love to hear from me.

So, what do you think? Is it better to do double opt in or single opt in? I would love to hear your comments below.

I’ve been struggling with the same question.
I’m beginning to think that single opt-in is the way to go.
Your subscribers still get the chance to opt-out if they want.
Its then down to whether you provide good info in your emails if they do or not.

    Hey Ray,

I have to agree. I have been a very happy Aweber customer for a long time, but I am in the process of moving my list to GetResponse right now so I have the choice.

I am more interested in having my buyers on the single optin than anything.

    Thanks.

That’s something else I’ve learnt today.

I didn’t realise that one of the features GetResponse has that Aweber doesn’t is giving you the choice to only have a single opt-in.

    Hi Shannon

    Sorry to hog your comments.

How do you get your comments and I assume your post to automatically provide a link for phrases that match your links ?

Such as the GetResponse and Aweber phrases in my previous comment.

That’s really cool and saves some work.

    Hey Harv,

I am using a brand new plugin called Ninja Affiliate by MaxBlogPress.

It really does save time and has the potential to add a ton of revenue to your blog.

Notice the links in this comment ;-)

I did noting but use the right keywords to get them to show up.
